Parra
I first came across Parra when reading through a Nike publication over at Arcade. His distinct illustration style is pretty hard to miss; the simplistic, pointy-faced, hand-drawn characters with bold, vibrant colours and superb typography are nothing short of awesome. He’s also another reason why I can’t wait to go to Amsterdam.

RIKCAT
Rik Catlow, aka RIKCAT of North Carolina has a super nice graff-illustration style, I especially like his thick line work combined with collage, it looks great on squashed cans too. If you have a spare $100US or so, perhaps you might like to check out his shop on Etsy.

Dan McPharlin
A small snippet of Dan McPharlin’s fantastic work. He does amazing things with paper, photography, and illustration. I’ve seen his work popping up all over the internet, in particular his paper vintage machines and instruments on flickr.

Interesting branding exploration for 1:1 Architects by COOP. I love that their logo/brand is a 3D object that’s used across multiple mediums: “Collaboration was interpreted through the picture mark. The three-dimensional mark was based on the geometric principals of the tesseract (a four-dimensional cube) where imagination and varying inputs create many possible angles. Unique...

Unkle- Heaven
Beauty, elegance and grace are terms not usually associated with skateboarding but this HD video for Unkle’s Heaven changes everything. This was originally the intro clip to the Lakai Fully Flared film, shot by Spike Jonze.

Input Output
Nice work from NZ based freelancer Markus Hofko, aka Rainbowmonkey. “Input-Output was a collaborative art-show, open for public contribution, playing with all media, using them, abusing them, remixing them. The outcome was an interactive audio-visual projection with all the elements created during the workshop. Surprises and unexpected perfection or oddity was to be seen.” -...

FITC Toronto 2009
FITC is finally back in Toronto, and I’m happy to say I’ll be taking part this year. As a stage manager I’ll be introducing the speakers and getting a first hand view of the presentations so I’m really excited and looking forward to being a part of such a great event. See you there!

NYCGO
Commissioned work for BBH New York by Steven Wilson to promote the launch of nycgo.com. He’s nicely tapping into the colourful/diverse aspects of the city, and they look great in the adshells. Something like this would be perfect for Toronto too I think.

Steven Harrington iPhone Case
Curated by Arkitip, designed for Incase by Steven Harrington. I love his style and inspiration. “Influenced by Time-Life Encyclopedias 1965-1972, thrift stores and the 60s pysch sounds of The Moody Blues, his art might be termed ‘contextual objectivism’. That is, each piece is created as a tangible object symbiotically defined of a larger context.” -Arkitip

Boxed Water
I really like the simplicity, typography, and the alternative to plastic, but how much better for the earth is Boxed Water? Does anyone remember that it also comes out of a tap? “Boxed Water is a ridiculous solution to an even more ridiculous problem—that we’d rather buy packaged water than drink it for nearly free out of the tap.” Says Gizmodo. More information here.

Pixel Breaker
The Polar Clock by Pixel Breaker is one slick screen saver. I have had it gracing the screen of my computer for a while now and I’m inspired every time I see it. Telling the time has never been so enjoyable, as each ‘hand’ revolves around in an everchanging colour spectrum. It can be downloaded for for free below. Mac OS X 4.4Mb [zip] Windows 2.0Mb

Urussai
Quality packaging design for Urussai by André Giacomucci: “This is a package for exclusive t-shirts. It has two parts that fit together and close a box. After taking the t-shirt you can use it as a box or you can open it and the two parts became a character (that will change with the collections).” I really appreciate the attention to detail, it says a lot about the brand and...

Drain Smoker
Two artists, Anderson Augusto and Leonardo Delafuente turn the dirty drains of Sao Polo, Brazil into beautiful works of art. This is my favourite, it has a strong message in there too! “With the painted storm drains, a new type of communication is proposed between art and the city as well as between art and the residents. Art then becomes within the reach and at the...

Truck Grind
The new Nike SB Custom Series campaign caught my eye for a couple reasons; the photos- shot by Jon Humphries are awesome, and my dad had this same truck as when I was a kid. There is something cool about skating on cars, and nose-gringing the rear end of my dad’s truck has some appeal too. See the rest of the campaign here.

Mooks Meat T
Good T-shirt packaging for a good cause by (ironically) Salad Design: “This was a design that was created for the purpose of a collaboration of Mooks and WWF to raise money for local zoo’s. The Packaging and design were created to complement each other. The meat tray was chosen to represent the obvious meat styled text as were the labels and other stickers around the package.”
